3 weeks / September 2025
Our core workshop (see other page) explores who we are beyond our daily relationships to care.
But sometimes conditions call for those realities to be showcased. In our current day and age, callousness and cruelty are being pushed as virtue and efficiency. It’s enough to shame anyone with needs into silence.
As if we all don’t have times we need a helping hand. With people in power doubling down to deny our existence—perhaps unwilling to face their own vulnerability—we know the answer is community: showing up, being seen, caring for others, and claiming our worth are acts of heroism we can all achieve.
Our lived experiences of disability, illness, aging, and caregiving can be hard to articulate for friends, let alone strangers.
In this three week workshop, we’ll consider different ways participants can tell the epic arcs we’ve found ourselves living, as well as the everyday frustrations and small victories.
We’ve been on this journey for several years, facing our fears, and putting ourselves out there as advocates—in the Wall Street Journal, The Nation, The 19th, and the ABC News special, “America’s Caregiving Crisis.”
The personal narratives you’ll develop need not aim for that kind of exposure. It’s enough to be better able to share our stories at a town hall, a social event, or even just with friends.
Where will it be:
Virtual, over Zoom. We know how hard it can be to get out of the house, and secure transportation. We designed this as a meaningful and fun activity for care teams, whether together or a few hundred miles apart. Care partner can’t participate? That’s okay—what about a friend or relative? How this group works will be determined by who participates, and what you’re working with—we’ll meet each individual where they’re at. This class has room for up to 20 people.
When?
We’ll begin in September, and meet weekly for 3 weeks. We know how hard it can be to maintain a consistent schedule, given appointments, off days, and meds fluctuations. Each week, participants can join in to either the early afternoon session, or in the early evening.
What will it cost?
The Pilot Cohort will be offered at no cost.
Going forward, half of each cohort will consist of sliding-scale or scholarship recipients.
